Concrete for Lehi's Larger Lots

Lehi is the oldest part of Mesa, and it still feels different from the rest of the city, so concrete contractors there often work on longer drives and bigger pads. Mormon settlers led by Daniel W. Jones arrived in March 1877. The settlement was first called Jonesville and Fort Utah, was renamed Lehi in 1883 and was annexed by Mesa in 1970. It is bounded by the Salt River on the north, the Consolidated Canal on the south and the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.

Semi-rural properties

Many Lehi properties are larger than typical Mesa lots, some with horses, workshops or RVs. That changes what owners ask for: a long driveway from the road to a back building, a thick pad for a trailer or tractor, a slab for a barn aisle or tack room, or a wide apron where a truck and trailer swing in. Heavier loads mean a thicker slab, a well-compacted base and reinforcement where the weight sits.

Mesa requires a permit for detached structures over 200 square feet. If your slab will be the floor of a new workshop or barn, the building and its foundation will need that permit, and we can pour to the approved plans.

Near the river and canal

Lehi lies between the Salt River and the Consolidated Canal, and older irrigated properties can have softer soil than nearby desert land. We check the ground where the slab will go, remove loose or organic soil, and build up a compacted base. We also make sure new concrete does not block flood irrigation or the way water moves across the lot.

History nearby

The Old Lehi School was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in August 2001 and now houses the Mesa Historical Museum. Mesa also lists Lehi as a Heritage Neighborhood, an honorary recognition rather than a historic district. Part of SR 202 runs through the area.

Mesa's July mean high is close to 106 degrees, so we pour large pads early in the day and in sections when needed.

Lehi Questions

How thick should a pad for a horse trailer be?

It depends on the trailer, the truck and the soil. Pads for heavy trailers are usually thicker than a patio and reinforced, on a compacted base. We size it for what you will park there.

Can you pour the floor for a new workshop?

Yes. A detached building over 200 square feet needs a Mesa permit, and we pour the slab and footings to the approved plans.

Do you handle long driveways?

Yes. We plan long drives in sections, with control joints and drainage along their length.
